DN400 PN16 Cast Iron Metal Seated Rising Stem Gate Valve

Description

Technical Data Sheet

Outside Screw and Yoke (OS&Y) Gate Valve
(Bronze-Seated, Metal-to-Metal Design)

Product Name: OS&Y Solid Wedge Gate Valve (Bronze Seated)
Standard: BS5163 / PN16
Size: DN400 (16 inches)

1. General Design Features

  • Type: Outside Screw and Yoke (OS&Y), Solid Wedge, Flanged Ends

  • Seat Type: Metal-to-Metal (Bronze Seated)

  • Stem Design: Rising stem (indicates open/close position)

  • Operation: Handwheel Operated (Gearbox is mandatory for this size due to high seating torque of metal seals)

  • Application: High-temperature fluids, Oils, Steam, Abrasive media, or where rubber is not suitable.

2. Applicable Standards

  • Design & Manufacturing: BS5150 / BS5163 (Metal-seated variants often follow BS5150) / EN1171

  • Face-to-Face Dimension: EN558-1 Series 3 (or BS2089)

  • Flange Drilling: BS4504 / EN1092-2 PN16

  • Test & Inspection: EN12266-1 (Rate A or B depending on spec)

3. Technical Parameters

Seat Ring (Body) Bronze Corrosion-resistant ring pressed or welded into the body.
Seat Ring (Wedge) Bronze Critical Difference: Both seating surfaces are Bronze (Body and Wedge) for metal-to-metal sealing.
Stem Stainless Steel Typically 2Cr13, SS304, or SS420
Stem Nut High-strength Brass / Aluminum Bronze Located in the Yoke
Bonnet Ductile Iron (DI)
Gland Packing Graphite / PTFE For high-temperature stem sealing
Handwheel Cast Iron / Malleable Iron Must be fitted with a Gearbox for DN400
Coating Epoxy Resin Min thickness > 250 microns, Color Blue RAL5005 (or as specified)

5. Dimensions & Connection Data (DN400 Reference)

*Note: Metal-seated solid wedge valves are often heavier than resilient seated valves. The dimensions below are estimates based on common BS standards. Request certified drawing for exact values. *

Dimension Item Value (mm) Notes
Face-to-Face Length (L) Approx. 600 mm EN558-1 Series 3
Flange Diameter (D) Approx. 565 mm BS4504 PN16
Bolt Circle Diameter (PCD) Approx. 525 mm
Number of Bolt Holes 20 – 24
Bolt Hole Diameter Approx. 30 – 33 mm
Overall Height (H) (Open) Approx. 1400 – 1850 mm Height when valve is fully open
Weight (approx) Approx. 450 – 550 kg Metal-seated valves are heavier than resilient-seated ones due to solid wedge mass.

6. Critical Notes & Selection Tips

  1. “Bronze Seated” Definition:

    • This data sheet now reflects a true Bronze-to-Bronze seal. The wedge has a Bronze ring/face that mates with the Bronze seat in the body. This is a metal seat, not a resilient seat.

  2. Torque Requirement (Mandatory Gearbox):

    • Unlike soft-seal valves which rely on rubber compression, metal-seated valves require significant mechanical force to close tightly.

    • For a DN400 PN16 metal-seated valve, a gearbox (worm gear) is NOT optional – it is mandatory. Please confirm the gearbox ratio with the supplier.

  3. Leakage Rate:

    • Metal-seated valves cannot achieve “zero leakage” (bubble tight) like rubber-seated valves. They typically conform to ISO 5208 Rate D (0.1x DN mm³/s) or Rate E. Please confirm the acceptable leakage rate for your application.

  4. Application:

    • This bronze-on-bronze configuration is excellent for hot water, steam condensate, and some oil services where EPDM or NBR rubber would fail.

Action Required:
Please confirm with the manufacturer:

  1. Gearbox Ratio & Output Torque (Is it suitable for manual operation under max differential pressure?)

  2. Sealing Leakage Rate (ISO 5208 Rate D or better?)

  3. Flange drilling details (BS4504 PN16) to match your pipeline.
