With Counterweight Assisted Closure System

Product: DN400 – PN16 Flanged Metal Seated Stainless Steel Swing Check Valve with Counterweight
Model: [To be specified]

1. Product Description

This large‑diameter flanged swing check valve features a metal‑to‑metal seated design and is equipped with a counterweight assisted closure system. The disc opens automatically under forward flow. When flow decelerates or a reverse flow tendency occurs, the counterweight, acting through a lever mechanism, rapidly assists disc closure. This significantly reduces closure time and mitigates water hammer, protecting the piping system. The valve is widely used at pump discharges, high‑pressure pipelines, and long‑distance transmission systems where reliable check performance is critical.

4. Key Features

4.1 Counterweight Assisted Closure

  • Fast closing: When flow reverses or slows, the counterweight provides additional torque to close the disc quickly, reducing water hammer pressure spikes.

  • Adjustable closing torque: The counterweight position can be moved along the lever arm to optimize closure speed for specific operating conditions.

  • Optional hydraulic damper: A damper or dashpot can be installed on the lever arm to smooth the final closing stroke, eliminating slamming and noise.

4.2 Metal‑to‑Metal Seating

  • Hardfaced seat and disc (Stellite® or equivalent) offer excellent wear, erosion, and high‑temperature resistance.

  • Suitable for high differential pressure, abrasive media, and elevated temperatures.

4.3 Low Pressure Drop

  • Full‑port flow path and disc that opens to 80°–90° under normal flow minimize pressure loss.

4.4 Reliable Pivot Design

  • Pin and bushings are made from wear‑resistant materials; lubrication points ensure smooth disc movement and long‑term reliability.

5. Dimensions & Weight (Reference)

Dimensions are typical for EN 1092‑1 PN16 RF flanges. The counterweight assembly dimensions vary based on site layout; final dimensions to be confirmed from certified GA drawings.

6. Design & Manufacturing Standards

Standard Description
Design API 6D, ASME B16.34, BS 1868, EN 12334
Pressure‑Temperature Rating ASME B16.34, EN 1092‑1
Face‑to‑Face EN 558 Series 1, ASME B16.10, API 6D
Flange Connections EN 1092‑1 PN16, ASME B16.5 Class 150 (as specified)
Inspection & Testing API 598, ISO 5208, EN 12266‑1

Testing:

  • Shell strength test: 1.5 × rated pressure

  • Seat leakage test: Per API 598 (metal seat allows minimal leakage; soft seat optional for zero leakage)

7. Installation & Adjustment

  1. Orientation

    • Install with flow direction matching the arrow on the body.

    • For horizontal pipelines, the lever arm must be vertical (upward) to ensure proper counterweight effect.

  2. Counterweight Adjustment

    • Preliminary counterweight position is set at factory based on design conditions.

    • After installation, adjust the weight position along the lever arm to achieve optimal closing speed without excessive water hammer.

  3. Hydraulic Damper (if equipped)

    • Fill with specified hydraulic oil and adjust the damping needle valve to control closing speed.

  4. Clearance

    • Ensure sufficient space around the counterweight swing path to avoid interference with adjacent equipment.

8. Optional Features

Option Description
Hydraulic Damper Installed on the lever arm to absorb closing impact and reduce noise/vibration
Position Indicator Visual indication of disc position (open/closed)
