KEY FEATURES PER MSS SP-85

  • Structural Integrity: Body minimum wall thickness calculated per Appendix A of SP-85.

  • Interchangeability: Face-to-face dimensions comply with ASME B16.10.

  • Sealing Reliability: Metal seat design ensures stability in thermal cycling; Optional soft seats for bubble-tight shutoff (Class VI).

  • Bonnet Safety: Bolted joint with controlled torque sequence to prevent overloading iron components.

  • Stem Guidance: Renewable brass bushings in yoke to prevent galling (Sec. 5.4 of SP-85).

CRITICAL NOTES

  1. Material Restriction: Cast iron valves shall not be used in:

    • Piping systems subject to water hammer or thermal shock (SP-85 Sec. 8.1).

    • Corrosive fluids (pH <6.5 or >8.5) or hydrocarbon services below -29°C.

  2. Pressure-Temperature Limits: Max. operating pressure derated per ASME B16.34 for temperatures >120°C (248°F).

  3. Installation Warning: Support piping near valve – avoid using valve as pipe hanger (SP-85 Sec. 8.3).

  4. Certification: Manufacturer must provide certification of compliance with MSS SP-85 (Marking per MSS SP-25).

*For sour service (H₂S environments) or cryogenic applications, use ductile iron/steel valves meeting NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.*

Marking Requirement (Per MSS SP-25):
