4. KEY DESIGN FEATURES

  • Bonnet Connection:

    • Sealed by thread interference + PTFE (no gasket)

  • End Connections:

    • Flanged: ASME B16.5 RF (NPS ½”-2″)

    • Threaded: Tapered NPT threads

  • Stem Seal:

    • Adjustable graphite packing

    • No backseat (inherent to threaded bonnet)

  • Maintenance:

    • Bonnet removal requires full unthreading (not field-friendly)

5. TESTING & CERTIFICATION

Test Standard Test Pressure Leakage Class
Shell Test API 598 300 PSI (2x 150#)
Seat Test API 598 165 PSI (1.1x 150#) Class IV
Backseat Not Applicable

6. DIMENSIONS & FINISH

  • Face-to-Face: ASME B16.10 Short Pattern

  • Weight: 20-30% lighter vs. bolted bonnet

  • Surface:

    • Threads: Anti-seize coated

    • External: Primer (RAL 5015)

7. ADVANTAGES & LIMITATIONS

Advantages Limitations
• Lower cost • Max size: NPS 2″
• Lighter weight • Max pressure: 150 LB
• No bolt corrosion • Avoid thermal cycling >120°C (250°F)
• Simplified design • Bonnet removal may damage threads

8. OPTIONS

  • Sealant: PTFE tape (std) / High-temp compound

  • Yoke: 316 SS (corrosive environments)

  • Certs: PED 2014/68/EU Cat. I

CRITICAL NOTES:

  1. Temperature Limit:

    • Do not exceed 120°C (250°F) – thermal cycling causes leakage.

  2. Installation:

    • Never overtighten bonnet – risk of galling/body distortion.

  3. Maintenance:

    • Reapply thread sealant after every disassembly.

  4. Replacement:

    • Damaged threads require full valve replacement.
