Description

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

Product: 1″ – Class 300 Floating Ball Valve
Material: Monel K400 (UNS N04400)
Actuation: Manual / Actuator-Ready (Optional)

1. General Description

This floating ball valve is manufactured from Monel K400 (UNS N04400) , a nickel-copper alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and reducing environments. The 1″ Class 300 configuration is designed for high-pressure, corrosive service applications where stainless steel may be inadequate. The floating ball design provides tight shut-off and reliable sealing, making this valve ideal for marine, chemical processing, oil & gas, and aerospace industries.

4. Key Features

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: Monel K400 offers outstanding resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and a wide range of reducing acids and alkaline solutions. It is immune to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC), making it superior to 316 stainless steel in marine environments.

  • Floating Ball Design: The ball is not trunnion-supported; line pressure forces the ball against the downstream seat, ensuring bubble-tight shut-off even at low pressures.

  • Forged Monel Construction: Body, ball, and stem are manufactured from forged Monel (ASTM B164 and B865), ensuring a dense, defect-free microstructure with consistent mechanical properties.

  • Blowout-Proof Stem: The stem is retained by a shoulder beneath the packing, preventing accidental ejection under pressure.

  • Anti-Static Device (Optional): Conductive path between ball, stem, and body dissipates static charge for flammable service applications.

  • Fire Safe Design (Optional): Available with fire-safe seat design compliant to API 607 or ISO 10497.

5. Operating Torque & Actuator Interface

For automated applications, the valve can be supplied with an ISO 5211 direct mount platform.

Parameter Details
Approximate Break Torque (1″, Class 300) [e.g., 15–25 Nm depending on seat material]
ISO 5211 Mounting Flange F03 / F04 / F05
Stem Connection Female square / double D / keyed
Optional Actuation Pneumatic, electric, or electro-hydraulic actuators available

6. Testing & Compliance

  • Design Standard: ASME B16.34

  • Face-to-Face Dimensions: ASME B16.10

  • Pressure Testing: API 598 (shell and seat tests)

  • Material Certification: EN 10204 Type 3.1 (including chemical composition and mechanical properties)

  • Fire Safety (Optional): API 607 / ISO 10497

  • NACE (Optional): MR0175 / MR0103 for sour service

7. Applications

  • Marine and offshore (seawater systems, firewater lines)

  • Chemical processing (hydrofluoric acid, chlorinated hydrocarbons)

  • Oil & gas (sour gas, produced water)

  • Aerospace (fuel and hydraulic systems)

  • Alkaline and reducing acid environments

8. Notes for Ordering

  • Monel K400 vs. K500: The valve body and ball are typically K400; the stem is often upgraded to Monel K500 for higher strength and wear resistance.

  • Seat Selection: PTFE is suitable for general service up to 150°C. For higher temperatures (up to 250°C) or abrasive media, PEEK seats are recommended.

  • End Connections: Confirm flange rating (Class 300) and facing (RF or RTJ) or threaded end type (NPT or socket weld) prior to ordering.

  • Actuation: Specify if ISO 5211 mounting is required for future automation.
