Technical Data Sheet: DN1400 PN16 Fully EPDM Internal Lined Butterfly Valve – Double Flanged

1. Product Description

This is a large-diameter, double-flanged, concentric butterfly valve with a fully internal EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) lining, nominal size DN1400, pressure rating PN16. Both the valve body interior and the disc are completely encapsulated with EPDM elastomer, ensuring absolute isolation of metallic components from the process fluid. The valve delivers excellent corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and sealing performance, making it ideal for large-bore pipelines in water treatment, FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization), desalination, and general chemical media applications, achieving bi-directional zero leakage.

4. Performance Data

  • Operating Temperature: -20°C to +120°C (-4°F to +248°F) continuous; consult for steam service above 110°C

  • Leakage Class: Bi-directional Zero Leakage (ISO 5208 Rate A / ANSI FCI 70-2 Class VI)

  • Suitable Media:

    • Raw water, potable water, wastewater, seawater

    • Dilute acids and alkalis (Note: EPDM is NOT resistant to mineral oils, greases, and hydrocarbon solvents)

    • FGD slurry, sludge (with small suspended solid particles acceptable)

    • Industrial circulating cooling water

  • Vacuum Service: Consult manufacturer (EPDM lining has limited vacuum resistance, particularly in large diameters)

  • Lining Integrity Test: 100% High Voltage Spark Test (≥3kV DC) performed on every valve to ensure pinhole-free and blister-free lining

  • Torque Consideration: Operating torque increases significantly in large diameters; a multi-stage reduction gearbox is supplied as standard

5. Pressure-Temperature Ratings

(Based on PN16 and EPDM mechanical properties, typical values)

Working Temperature Maximum Allowable Working Pressure
-20°C ~ +40°C (-4°F ~ +104°F) 16.0 bar (232 psi)
+80°C (176°F) 12.0 bar (174 psi)
+100°C (212°F) 9.0 bar (130 psi)
+120°C (248°F) 6.0 bar (87 psi)

Note: Final pressure-temperature ratings for large-diameter valves are subject to the manufacturer’s specific design.

6. Key Features

  • Full Isolation: Body and disc are completely encapsulated by EPDM, using a full-molding process for DN1400. Metal parts are fully isolated from the media.

  • Integrated Seamless Seat: The EPDM lining is vulcanized or molded directly to form the seat without any seams, eliminating the risk of lining delamination or leakage behind the liner.

  • Bi-directional Sealing: The resilient rubber seat paired with a large polished disc ensures bubble-tight shut-off in both flow directions.

  • Reinforced Large-Diameter Structure:

    • Thick-walled ductile iron body for superior rigidity.

    • Large-diameter stem design to withstand high torque loads.

    • Reinforcing ribs on the disc to prevent deformation under DN1400 service conditions.

  • Double Flanged Design: Capable of independent installation at pipeline ends or in-line isolation; allows single-side piping dismantling during maintenance.

  • Blow-out Proof Stem: Stem design incorporates a positive safety step, ensuring safe operation even under high differential pressure in large diameters.

  • Gearbox Operation: Supplied with a 2-stage or 3-stage reduction worm gearbox as standard, featuring a visual position indicator and mechanical travel stops for reliable, low-effort operation.

7. Precautions & Notes

  1. Media Compatibility: EPDM is NOT resistant to mineral oils, greases, animal/vegetable fats, and hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., benzene, toluene, gasoline). Always verify chemical compatibility before selection.

  2. Transportation & Lifting: DN1400 valves are heavy (approx. XXX kg). Use designated lifting lugs or slings only. Never lift by the handwheel or actuator.

  3. Installation:

    • Use a double-flanged connection. Tighten flange bolts evenly and symmetrically in a cross-diagonal sequence to prevent lining distortion or flange cracking.

    • Ensure proper pipe alignment before installation to avoid excessive piping stress on the valve body.

  4. Storage: Store in a cool, dry, shaded environment, protected from direct sunlight, oil contamination, and ozone-rich atmospheres. Store the disc in a slightly open position (approx. 5°-10°).

  5. Operating Torque: Large-diameter valves require high operating torque. Do not force operation. If binding occurs, inspect the pipeline for debris or scaling.

  6. Steam Service: High-temperature steam accelerates EPDM aging. Not recommended for continuous service exceeding 120°C (248°F).
