Technical Data Sheet

JIS Standard Screw-Down Non-Return (SDNR) Globe Valve

Product: JIS Standard Screw-Down Non-Return (SDNR) Globe Valve
Valve Type: Globe Pattern, Flanged Ends
Model: SF-H41 Series (Lift Type SDNR)
Standard: Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS)

1. Product Description

A Screw-Down Non-Return (SDNR) Globe Valve is a multifunctional valve that combines the functions of an isolation valve and a check valve. Unlike a standard globe valve, the disc is not rigidly attached to the stem. When the stem is screwed down, it forces the disc onto the seat to stop flow. When the stem is raised, the disc is free to lift and lower automatically in response to flow direction, acting as a non-return check valve to prevent backflow.

6. Design Features

  1. Screw-Down Mechanism: The stem is threaded and can be manually screwed down to force the disc onto the seat, providing positive shut-off independent of line pressure .

  2. Non-Return Function: When the stem is fully raised, the disc is free-floating. It lifts automatically when forward flow occurs and drops onto the seat when flow ceases or reverses, preventing backflow .

  3. Rising Stem Design: The stem rises as the valve is opened, providing a visual indication of the valve position .

  4. Guided Disc: The disc is guided by a precision-machined cage or bore in the bonnet, ensuring proper alignment during both manual closing and automatic check operation .

  5. Renewable Seat: The seat ring is typically threaded or welded-in, allowing for field replacement without replacing the entire body .

  6. Backflow Prevention: Essential for protecting pumps, boilers, and compressors from damage caused by reverse flow and water hammer .

  7. Full Bore / Reduced Bore: Typically a reduced bore design (globe pattern) to maximize sealing efficiency and control flow .

7. Applications

  • Marine Engineering: Boiler feed water systems, fuel oil systems, cooling water lines on ships .

  • Power Plants: Steam and feedwater isolation where backflow prevention is critical .

  • Industrial Pump Discharge: Prevents reverse rotation of pumps when shut down .

  • Compressed Air Systems: Prevents backflow of air into idle compressors .

  • Steam Systems: Used on steam branch lines where both isolation and check functions are required .
