1. Product Overview

This valve features a free forging process for the body, ensuring superior grain structure and mechanical properties compared to castings. It is designed with a pressure self-sealing bonnet (pressure seal design) , where the sealing performance increases with internal pressure, making it ideal for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. The body material is ASTM A182 F11 (1.25% Chrome – 0.5% Molybdenum alloy steel) , offering excellent creep resistance and high-temperature strength. Connections are butt-weld ends (BW) per ASME B16.25, providing leak-free piping systems. Designed in accordance with API 602 and ASME B16.34.

Seat Ring Integral with Body or Welded + Stellite Hardfacing Hardfaced with Stellite alloy, ground to mirror finish for metal-to-metal tight shut-off .
Stem ASTM A182 F6a (13% Cr Stainless Steel) / A182 F304 High strength, corrosion resistant, blow-out proof design. Surface treated (nitriding/chrome plating) to reduce friction .
Self-Sealing Gasket Stainless Steel + Flexible Graphite laminated / Pressure Seal Ring “Delta” or “Wedge” type ring. Pressure energizes the seal – higher pressure, tighter seal .
Bonnet Ring ASTM A182 F11 / Carbon Steel Threaded ring that compresses the self-seal gasket.
Packing Flexible Graphite (Die-formed rings) High temperature resistance, low fugitive emission compliance (ISO 15848-1) .
Gland Follower ASTM A182 F11 / Stainless Steel Precise compression of packing rings.
Stem Nut Aluminum Bronze (C95400) / Ni-Resist Self-lubricating, prevents stem galling .
Handwheel Ductile Iron / Fabricated Steel Impact-resistant design.

4. Pressure Self-Sealing Bonnet (Pressure Seal) Characteristics

  • Principle of Operation: The self-sealing bonnet utilizes a sealing gasket (typically stainless steel/graphite laminate or solid metal “pressure seal” ring) . The bonnet is secured by a threaded bonnet ring. When internal pressure is applied, it forces the bonnet upward, compressing the gasket radially against the body bore. The higher the internal pressure, the tighter the seal .

  • Advantages for High Pressure:

    • Eliminates large, heavy flanges and numerous stud bolts required for high-pressure ratings.

    • Provides a positive, leak-proof seal that is self-energizing.

    • Reduces weight and envelope size compared to bolted bonnet designs.

    • Ideal for cyclic temperature and pressure services.

  • Sealing Gasket: Typically flexible graphite laminated with stainless steel for high-temperature resilience and chemical resistance .

5. Main Technical Characteristics

  1. Free Forged Body: The forging process refines the grain structure of the A182 F11 alloy, eliminating porosity and providing superior strength and integrity compared to castings. Essential for high-pressure applications .

  2. Pressure Self-Sealing Bonnet: As described in Section 4, this design ensures leak-proof operation under extreme pressures. The bonnet is easily removable for maintenance .

  3. Welded Connection (BW Ends): Butt-weld ends per ASME B16.25 provide a permanent, leak-free connection to the piping system, eliminating flange gasket maintenance and potential leak paths .

  4. A182 F11 Alloy Steel Construction: 1.25% Chrome – 0.5% Molybdenum steel offers excellent resistance to high-temperature creep, oxidation, and corrosion in steam, oil, and gas services up to 550°C .

  5. Hard-Faced Seats (Stellite): The wedge and seat sealing surfaces are overlaid with Stellite (Cobalt-based alloy) , ensuring long life in erosive high-velocity services .

  6. Rising Stem & OS&Y: Clear visual indication of valve position. Outside screw design prevents thread contact with the line media .

  7. Backseat Design: Allows for repacking under pressure when the valve is fully open .

  8. API 602 Compliance: Designed to the rigorous requirements of API 602 for forged steel valves, ensuring robust construction and reliable performance .
